Abandoned bikes

Abandoned bikes in the garden take up space that other cyclists could benefit from. They are unsightly and attract crime in the form of vandalism and bike theft.

The railings and fences around the garden are a useful fixing point for day-to-day commuters, but should not be considered a long-term storage space for bikes.

Bikes which appear to have been abandoned will be monitored for two weeks before being reported to the Council.

We consider signs of abandonment to include

  • Bent wheels
  • Flat tyres
  • Corrosion, rust or other signs of decay
  • Pigeon muck, mould and other debris
  • Seasoned/Weather beaten -Bleached by sunshine, rain and snow.
  • Absence of communication from or visible sign of an interested party.
